W2C Students Hard at Work During Spring Break
When we think of Spring Break we often think of rest and relaxation. Some of us have been able to do that but for some Waukegan to College students they have been hard at work all week, and are really proud of their commitment and dedication to W2C and their academic future.
Here are just a few things that our students have been busy with all week!
Helping out at the office —
Thanks to Luz Cruz, Mirian Lopez, Carlos Rico, Cecilia Rico, and Gala Torres for filing hundreds of college brochures away in our college resourceroom!
Thanks to Guadalupe Bueno, Gabriel Murray, Carlos Rico, Cecilia Rico, and Salvador Rodriguez for counting 16,803 plastic bottle caps for our “Plastic Caps for Dialysis” drive.
Students in 5th thru 8th grade have been coming in all week to take math assessments so that we can tell where our students need extra help. Over the summer these students will be able to work on strengthening their math skills based on a program tailored to their individual needs.
Some of our seniors used this week to continue to work on finishing up applying to colleges, and working on scholarship applications.
Career Exploration —
Eric Garcia just completed a 3 month career exploration program with Fiamico Restaurant located downtown Waukegan. We’d like to thank Chef Mike and Fiamico Restaurant for working with W2C and giving Eric this great opportunity. Take a look at the yummy dish Eric created himself! At the end of Eric’s mini-internship, he created a 3 course menu on his own that included a savory soup and salad dish, a main dish (check out the picture), and desert (picture not available — it was so delicious we forgot to take a picture!)
Busy, busy, busy…
